Research Interests: I want to discover how our perceptual abilities, particularly our visual abilities, can be related the properties of the underlying mechanisms. At present I am working on two projects funded by the Wellcome Trust. With Dr Fatima Felisberti I am studying the physiological mechanisms whereby visual signal regulate the gain of neurones in the lateral geniculate nucleus. With Dr Outi Ukkonen I am investigating the nature of the mechanisms that signal the motion of patterns that consist of spatial variations on the contrast of another pattern.
