Professor Buxton has more than ten years experience in solid state physics and microscopy at the Universities of Cambridge and Bristol and a further fourteen years of experience in computer vision and perception with GEC-Marconi Hirst Research Centre where he rose to become Manager of the Long Range Research Laboratory. In 1994 he moved to University College, London to lead a team focussing on research into the use of colour image data, statistical modelling, whole body 3D image data and the interaction of computer vision, graphical modelling and virtual reality systems. He currently holds the Professorship in Information Processing Systems and is also a member of the Scientific and Technicalogical Council of the Instituto de Engenharia Biomedica, Portugal.. He is the author of more than 50 papers in solid state physics and computer vision and is joint author of the book 'Experiments in the Machine Interpretation of Visual Motion'.
