Stephen Roberts was born in London in 1965. He studied Physics
at Oxford from 1983-1986 and then worked for a few years in the
research department of Oxford Instruments. From 1989-1991 he researched
his PhD and worked as a postdoc until 1994 when he was appointed
to the faculty at Imperial College, University of London. In 1999
he moved to take up his current position in Oxford. Stephen Roberts'
main area of research lies in machine learning approaches to data
analysis. He has particular interests in the application of machine
learning methods to problems in mathematical biology. Current
research focuses on Bayesian statistics, graphical models, independent
component analysis and information theory. He runs the Pattern
Analysis & Machine Learning Research Group and is a fellow
of Somerville College.
